You either hate me or you want to be my friend.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Japan was on friendly terms with us, which was considered a honeymoon period. But when things went sour, they started to spread hate towards Japan, reminding people of the atrocities committed against them in World War II, until this very day. Whenever there's an internal conflict or turmoil, they'll always fan the flames of nationalism, which has proven to be highly effective. The US directly destroyed two cities in Japan without any backlash from the Japanese. Some naive leftists even go so far as to say that they're more bitter about America than their own government. It's not surprising that some leftists have such a strong hatred for Japan because it is responsible for the destruction of one of its territories. Not only that, but Japan also took over a significant amount of land during World War II, yet we still see Japanese leftists who openly show their hatred towards Americans. You might think that you can just tell someone to stop hating Japan, but if they've been brainwashed by their propaganda, then telling them to stop hating the US will do no good. If you really want to make them change their minds, perhaps you should consider taking them to Russia where they were actually responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent civilians.
