150 million users' passwords lost due to #Chrome browser error
According to IT之家, Forbes reported on August 28 that due to a bug in the password manager for the Chrome browser, millions of users' saved passwords have been lost. Google has apologized for this issue. The company claims that the problem started on July 24 and lasted over 18 hours, affecting about one million Windows users with the latest version (M127) of Chrome. The affected users were unable to find any saved passwords they had previously stored using the Chrome password manager, nor could they see new ones. Google quickly identified and fixed the issue and advised users to restart Chrome to restore the password management function. If the problem persists, users should contact Google Workspace support for help. Additionally, Google promised to improve software reliability and user support. It is difficult to determine exactly how many users were affected by the password management issue caused by the disappearing passwords. According to a report by Global Chrome Browser Users, around 30 billion users worldwide (as per IT之家注:主要是Windows用户占大多数),可以估算出受影响的比例——大约有25%的用户在更新后发现了相关的配置发生变化,大约有7.5亿用户受到影响。
