Which countries should be prioritized for seeing the world?

The priority should be countries that are safe, and I prefer Japan and South Korea because they're closer to me, and flying from there would take around 2 hours at the latest (my wife doesn't like Japan or South Korea). The second priority is Europe, but it's too far away for my liking. There have been reports of high crime rates in some parts of Europe, so I'm not sure if I'd feel comfortable staying out late at night. However, I think it's important to see different places when traveling, so I don't mind going on a tour.
