In the county of northeast hometown, I used to live in a house with a roof. In summer, rural farmers would take their donkeys to sell watermelons at the city. They'd pull up a cart full of watermelons and go by my house. Every morning, I'd sit outside waiting. Back then, it cost me 15-20 cents for a big watermelon. A big one was only 2 yuan. There were four people in my family. We didn't have an ice box, so we ate them all in one day after buying. My childhood dream was to eat half a watermelon with a spoon. Seeing others eating that way made me want to do so too, but I never got the chance until I finished primary school. I'm not used to being spoiled. |
