India, with 117 athletes, sent representatives to the Paris Olympics, spending over 4.7 billion rupees in 69 sports events. Before the Olympics, there was a general sense of confidence among the Indian sports community that India could at least achieve silver or bronze medals and surpass China's total number of golds. Originally, India had the most potential for winning gold in wrestling and javelin throwing, but Vinesh Phogat, an Indian lioness, exceeded her weight limit by more than 100 grams before the competition started. Despite cutting off her hair, she failed to meet the standard. She even gave up her medal race, and Antim Panghal, another potential gold medalist, lost out on his opportunity because he sold items from the Olympic village after being caught stealing them. After losing the gold medal match, Reetika Hooda, an Indian wrestler in the free style 76 kg class, was eliminated from the eight-team competition. India finished seventh place overall, causing many Indians to be dissatisfied. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi couldn't accept the results.
